Pittsburgh, PA – After 26 years of distinguished service at WTAE, Investigative Reporter Paul Van Osdol will retire at the end of the month, concluding a remarkable career defined by award-winning journalism, meaningful investigations, and a lasting impact on the Pittsburgh community.
Van Osdol joined WTAE in 1999 and quickly became one of the newsroom’s most trusted and respected journalists.
“Over the course of Paul’s career, he played a leading role in major coverage that informed viewers, drove accountability, and made a difference in the lives of Western Pennsylvania families,” said WTAE President & General Manager Charles W. Wolfertz III.
Among his most notable work was WTAE’s investigation into fire response times, which earned the station a prestigious George Foster Peabody Award in 2015. His reporting also included “Drilling Down,” an investigative series that exposed the impact of the natural gas drilling boom on the environment and local families; “Concussions and Our Kids,” a 2013 Chronicle that examined the risks of youth head injuries; and coverage of child abuse deaths, which earned a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award in 2018.
“Paul has been a tremendous journalist, teammate, and mentor,” said WTAE News Director Baylor Long. “Whether he was leading a major investigation, digging through complicated records, or helping a colleague make sense of a difficult story, Paul always brought intelligence, integrity, and heart to the job.
“Working at WTAE has been one of the great honors of my life,” said Paul Van Osdol. “I’ve had the privilege of telling stories that mattered, working alongside incredibly talented journalists, and serving a community that values strong local news. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together.”
Van Osdol’s final day at WTAE will be Wednesday, March 25.
