The Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB) Board of Directors have announced that WNEP’s morning meteorologist Joe Snedeker will receive the Television Broadcaster of the Year Award for 2023. The award will be presented at the PAB’s annual Excellence in Broadcasting Awards Luncheon at the Harrisburg Hilton Hotel on Friday, May 5th.
Joe has been with the station full-time since 1999.
Prior to that he was just a kid growing up in the wilds of Lackawanna County. Joe showed an aptitude very early on for science and decided teaching would be his destiny. Fate had other plans though.
Joe did indeed begin teaching at Carbondale Area High School in 1988. But a few short years later he started moonlighting at WNEP as their weekend meteorologist. During this time Joe began to develop his irreverent on-air style and signature brand of humor. He also began his yearly Go Joe charity bike ride, benefiting Saint Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Scranton. In its 25-year history, Go Joe has brought in more than $10 million dollars from individual donations, telethons, and community business partners.
Joe went full-time at WNEP just before the turn of the millennium. But he still teaches earth science part-time at Marywood University. And his daily forecasts retain the flavor of a born teacher hustling to help his students stay engaged, entertained, and become a little smarter than they were before they stepped into his classroom.
Joe is married to his wife Dawn. Together they have three children: Joseph, Luke, and Aleah.
