As the new year rings in, the Pennsylvania General Assembly is gearing up for the second half of their legislative session. While few expect controversial legislation or broad-based taxes to get serious consideration in an election year, there are many hot button issues expected to take the spotlight in 2018.
Domestic violence, opioid prescriptions and pain management clinics, sexual harassment, Marcellus shale tax, redistricting, and reducing the size of the state legislature are all topics that have percolated to the top of the legislative docket.
In a positive move in the waning days of 2017, after several iterations and a successful lobbying effort, the General Assembly placed HB 411, which allows for unrestricted advertising of Bingo games, on the Governor’s desk where he promptly signed it. This amended law will now allow for advertisement of Bingo games and their monetary prizes beginning February 20th, 2017.
