Ray Carter is Regional Vice President of Television for the Cox Media Group. In his position, he oversees television operations in Seattle, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, and Boston. Prior to his regional responsibilities, he was VP and General Manager of WPXI-TV, the NBC-affiliated station in Pittsburgh. He has spent more than 30 years in the broadcasting industry. Before becoming a regional VP, and general manager, he was the executive in charge of local news operations at different stations across the country. Over a 15-year span, he worked as the News Director in markets that include Des Moines, Salt Lake City, and Atlanta.
Prior to his move into management, he worked as a videographer, editor, writer, producer, reporter and anchor. He readily admits that his poor performance as a news anchor and his rapidly receding hairline sped up his move into management.
Ray is a member of the NBC Television Affiliate Advisory Board, and serves on the advisory boards of the Pennsylvania Economy League, and The Harrison’s for Hope Foundation, and is Vice Chairman of the St. Barnabas CEO Leadership Conference.
Ray and his wife Cathy are the parents of four children.
